The lesson!

Today I was telling my children to that they should be grateful for the pizza and fries they had at my younger son’s soccer awards ceremony. They didn’t get a chance to play the games at the restaurant so my younger son was balling tears and wouldn’t stop. I told him think of all the children in the world that don’t have food to eat, but you are so lucky that you are blessed to have this food and that too food from a restaurant that is to your liking. He eventually calmed down and he may have not learned the lesson just yet as he is young but I believe that is where the building blocks are built in the child’s mind, the child is listening and with repetition of values the child will eventually understand. Then a couple hours later after I had to return something at the store, we went to Starbucks to have a treat and in the moments to follow I realized that I’m too a hypocrite as I spoiled myself with coffee instead of maybe feeding a homeless person with that money or abstaining just like my son abstained from the games at the restaurant. I must practice what I preach and learn that I must be the example for the loved ones around me. I must count my blessings and be grateful for the food I eat daily, and the air I breathe for free every second, and the vision that happened to come with the blesse-ed body I’ve been given for free. This life is a chance, an opportunity, every second we live we are granted with freedom of choice and this gift of the “present”…we need to learn and practice one sacred lesson at a time.
